Oscar Murillo is currently on view in David Zwirner‚s London location with ‚Binary function‚. The show is elaborated around a plethora of medium including his iconic paintings and drawings together with new sculptures, sounds and video elements. The strong relation existing between Murillo and the materials he utilizes is therefore the common thread of the exhibition.

Born in Colombia and raised in London, Murillo is a multicultural artist who takes his heritage as a main source of inspiration. The environment itself in which the works are created has a direct impact on them. The studio misadventures, the time occurrences, they all are kept in order to give the final works a certain patina and tradition. The experimental paintings for which the artist is known occupy a central part of the show. But for ‚Binary Function‘, Murillo experienced with other medium such as film with a street caption of the street of La Paila in Colombia. Bringing altogether the different expressive means used, Murillo unite them in a personal and intimate language. Hence, the oscillation in between the media becomes the central connection.
