Hauser & Wirth presents a Lary Bell exhibition in its location on 69th Street. The American artist renown for his unique perception on sculpture and light is honored by a retrospective of his works ‘From the ‘60s’ as mentions the exhibition’s title.

‚From the ‘60s‘ refers to Bell’s early artistic years. As a main actor of California’s Light and Space movement and New York Minimalism in the sixties, Bell represents both the East and West Coast tendencies of the time. It is as a student under Robert Irwin that Bell first discovered a fascination for glass. The ‘Ghost Box’ (1962) is representative of this period with its vacuum-coated glass deposited on the surface. Geometrical forms are also a main element of Bell’s corpus. Geometrical-shaped canvas or conventional canvas containing an illusion of forms are among the most important pieces of the artist. ‘Lil Orphan Annie’ (1960) or ‘Homage to Baby Judy’ (1960) both underline the volume of the surface through polygonal silhouettes. ‘From the ‘60s’ thus offers to the viewer a celebration of Bells’ diversity of works and interest for illusion and light.
