Jules de Balincourt
Stumbling Pioneers‘
London
Victoria Miro is currently presenting Stumbling Pioneers, an exhibition by Jules de Balincourt. The French artist who lives and works in Brooklyn, turns his gaze on the mythic Los Angeles metropolis with his colorful paintings.
The second solo show of de Balincourt with the London-based gallery evokes freedom, sunsets, ideals and utopia; touchstones of the West respectively. Coming in different formats, his canvases are ‘a very intuitive dance in the dark of brushes and pigments’ as the artist himself describes before adding that ‘ in a way it is about this intersection in my mind when I abandon the more unknowing primitive approach, finding something that inspired or I need to pursue.‘
