Sunday Read

From Helmut Newton to Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin, Prestel’s new publication Zeitlos Schön: 100 Jahre Modefotografie (Timeless beauty: 100 Years of Fashion Photography) redraws the history of Fashion Photography from its debuts in the 1920s’ until the present days.

Irving Penn, Helmut Newton and Peter Lindbergh are inevitable names within the world of photography. Yet they would not be as iconic without fashion magazines and its photography that early on developed into an art of itself. An art enhanced by the very personal choices of editors in chief. To highlight this topic, Zeitlos Schön presents an exclusive interview with Franca Sozzani, the editor in chief of Italian Vogue. Another part of the publication is dedicated to the history and evolution of fashion photography presenting the most famous pictures marking the 20th and 21st century’s visual culture. As for example: Man Ray photo of Kiki de Montparnasse for the May issue of French Vogue in 2016, or Peter Lindbergh’s photo showing super model Cindy Crawford and Eva Evangelsita in men’s suits for the March issue of Italien Vogue 1989. On more than 300 pages, Zeitlos Schön is an homage to fashion Photography its actors and agents.
