Gerhard Richter

Berlin

It was on the 9th of February when famous German painter, sculptor and photographer celebrated his 80th birthday. Due to this occasion, the New National Gallery Berlin dedicates him an exhibition showing a retrospective of his work.
In conjunction with Tate Modern in London and the Centre Pompidou in Paris, there are 150 paintings from all periods of the artist’s extensive oeuvre presented. Carefully selected together with the artist himself, Gerhard Richter. Panorama offer visitors a profound insight into his stylistically and thematically diverse body of work.
Structured for the most part chronologically, the exhibition’s dramaturgical flow centres around a dialogue, running over decades, held between abstraction and figuration; a dialogue that can be traced all the way back to the very first painting in Richter’s catalogue raisonné, Table from 1962.

Claiming that versatile genies tend to randomness, Richter is obviously the counter-example proving that it is indeed possible to be an all-around talent. Happy Birthday, Mr. Richter!
