Inspired by its environment, the Ibsens Hotel successfully clings to its surrounding. Dominated by small cafés, restaurants, galleries, boutiques, second-hand bookshops, the peculiar and inventive characteristics, the Nansensgade serves as source of inspiration as well as the street where the Ibsens is located.

As those responsible state themselves: „We have wandered up and down the street, peaked into backyards and let the images and impressions sink in.“ Today, this results in lovely textiles in the lobby made by the local designer Krestine Kjærholm, in Wencke Barfoed’s (We Shop) small tables, in Taske-Piet’s (The last bag) leather tags for the newkey chains, in Bookseller-Jes’s (Nansensgade Second-hand bookshop and publisher) books in the library corner, in an used record player from Würtz (Würtz Radio),…

That much is clear: the Ibsens Hotel is concerned about their responsibility. Following their design affinity, the hotel found a way to work off their commercial interests within a surrounding that prefers independence. And the Ibsens shifts it even further than through their immediate vicinity.

By teaming up with the project Artmoney, they also support international artists. Artmoney is a global, alternative currency made of original art. Artists make their own money, which certain companies such as the Ibsens Hotel accept as payment. The concept of exchanging art for goods and services is as old as humankind and the value of art is recognized by all people. Collectors buy artmoney as inexpensive, original art. At Ibsens Hotel, the Artmoney art works decorate one wall of the lobby. Therewith, the Ibsens is not only worth to spend your time at for a stay…
