Ben Brown Fine Arts is currently showing an Alighiero Boetti exhibition. Featuring the iconic embroideries of the Italian artist, the London-based gallery honors one of the leading characters of the Arte Povera movement.

Alighiero Boetti who is also known as Aligheri e Boetti (1940-1994) created his art with a quite unique approach: while he developed the idea of his works, he let others execute them. Traveling the world, Boetti found inspiration in foreign countries, especially in Pakistan and Afghanistan where craftswomen realized his embroideries with silk threads. Thus, his Mappa series is explicitly inspired by his journeys. As he declared in 1974 „For me the work of the embroidered Mappa is the maximum of beauty. (…) when the basic idea, the concept, emerges everything else requires no choosing.“ For ‘Alighiero Boetti: embroideries’ Ben Brown Fine Arts presents embroidered pieces from 1992, Boetti’s last period of work. Each embroidered square contains a message such as ‘Le Infinite Possibilità di Esistere’ (the infinite possibility of existing) or ‘Attire l’Attenzione’ (to draw attention). Each sentence symbolizes Boetti’s duality and his prolonged interest in order and disorder, already presents through his name and further explored through his art.
