‚New Paintings‘

New York

Chelsea-based Skarstedt Gallery is currently showing David Salle‚s ‘New Paintings’. In between painting and photography, this exhibition links to Salle’s last show ‘Ghost Paintings’. The later displayed photographic images on a readymade ground, subject to the application of paint.

Drawing his inspiration from existing pictures, David Salle’s New Paintings induce this stimulus. Skillfully driving from black and white to colorful pop pieces, the exhibition’s display suggests diverse axis that all converge in the collage direction. David Salle even crosses the line with ‘Faster Healing’ by using his own production ‘Silver’ as integrant part of the artwork. ‘Silver’ is therefore seen as an iconic pieces re-used in an advertisement yet complete way. Thus, Salle presents his own pieces mixing past and present and ‘making them indivisible’.
