New York-based Gagosian Gallery is currently showing Cathedral of the Pines, an exhibition with American photographer Gregory Crewdson. The artist specialized in capturing small-town America tableaux using cinematographic equipment and atmosphere, is now presenting a new series responding to his emblematic aesthetics.

A woman sadly waiting in her kitchen; two kids wandering bored in a tip; girls miserably looking away on a couch — these are some of the scenes staged and captured by Crewdson. Using crews familiar with motion picture, the result are vibrant film-like pictures. The series Cathedral of the Pines was shot between 2013 and 2014 in the rural town of Becket, Massachusetts. The set recalls nineteenth-century American paintings and combines both indoor and outdoor scenes that call out the viewer through their accuracy and disturbance.
