International Pop

Apr 10, 2015

Minneapolis

Minneapolis-based Walker Museum currently shows International Pop – an exhibition featuring some 140 works from 14 countries. The title hints at the exhibition’s content: Pop Art, the most prevalent and dominant movement of the artistic scenes. Thus, artists of international fame such as Peter Blake, Yves Klein or Niki de Saint Phalle to name few are on show to represent it.

American Pop Art is the point of departure of the show eventually going worldwide. The numerous tendencies and movements that internationally took their root from the Pop Art are displayed and explained. Hence, the French Nouveau Réalisme, the German Capitalist Realism, the Argentinian Art of Things are all enlightened. International Pop concentrates on the universal impact of the movement, offering a range of rarely seen works. The media strategies, mechanical production and embrace of the widespread fashions are obviously discussed through the show that will be exhibited in the Dallas Museum of Art and in the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 2016.
