Cologne

In 1939 Laszlo Glozer created the word ‘Westkunst‘ (Western art) to signify the continuation of modernism. The term will soon evoke the ‘Weltkunst’ (world art) to recall the center of avant-grade and innovative art.

Decades later, Kasper König, former director of Cologne’s Museum Ludwig and Okwui Enwezor actual Director of the Haus der Kunst in Munich and Artistic Director of the 2015 Venice Biennal discuss the subject at the Filmforum at the Museum Ludwig. The conference belongs to the PLURIVERSALE III an event organized by the Academy of the Arts of the World Cologne that offers a wide array of exhibitions, film screenings discussions, performances and concerts. The conference is untitled ‘Ist Westkunst Weltkunst?‚ (Is Western art, international art?) and interrogates which place occupy nowadays the Western art on the artistic scene after that a shift occurred. Is still Western art a prominent one? What and where is Weltkunst (international art) in the 21st century?
