Paul Kasmin gallery presents ‘UNBALANCED’ an exhibition featuring works of the last Kenneth Noland. The American abstract painter who has a specific sensitivity to color is represented through geometrical paintings of the late seventies.

UNBALANCED focuses on the American Color Field of Noland. Forms constitute the common thread of the exhibition in with shaped canvas give the ton. With an education acquired under expatriate Bauhaus master Josef Albers, Noland got another understanding of colors that distinctively appears through his work. The geometrical surfaces are at times filled with other geometrical realms as with Half Day (1977), at times just highlighted in the border by thin lines as embodied by Ring (1977). His palette inspired essayist Alex Bacon to suggest that ‘the calibration of the oscillating stripes causes the painting to flex and shimmer as the eye twists and turns across the sinuous but taut picture plane.’ A perspective that can be admired through the first exhibition of Kenneth Noland with Paul Kasmin gallery.
