Luke Chueh’s images have been remarked upon for their juxtaposition of cuteness with the macabre. His paintings and illustrations are noted for bringing together influences as diverse as Mark Rothko and Sanrio. Although he has a disdain for the term, artist Luke Chueh is generally considered to be a member of the lowbrow, or pop surrealism, art movement.

The exhibition Turning Japanese at Tokyo-based event space, café, and art gallery, IDOL currently features original acrylic paintings by Chueh.
