‚Revolution in the Making: Abstract Sculptures by Women, 1947-2016′

Mrz 13, 2016

Los Angeles

Hauser Wirth & Schimmel is opening its new Los Angeles space with an exhibition focusing on women. Entitled Revolution in the Making: Abstract Sculpture by Women, 1947-2016 offers a wide spectrum featuring artists like Louise Bourgeois, Eva Hesse, Yayoi Kusama and Isa Genzken.

The revolutionary aspect of the exhibition lies in the artists themselves. The range is vast: from Louise Bourgeois who introduced women to sculpture art in the 1950s to contemporary artists who have worked on commissioned works for the exhibition. Each artist explores sculpturing in its own way and with her own approach. Sonia Gomes works with fabrics, Eva Hesse with latex, Cristina Iglesias with cement Iglesias. The shapes are numerous as well. Yayoi Kusama presents an enigmatic snake, Magdalena Abakanowicz a gigantic rope, and Isa Genzken a segment of a wall.

The diversity of the artworks on view is explicit of the individual path followed by each artists while being all link by the same will to impose their art beyond their gender.
