New York-based Danziger Gallery currently presents The Satorialist: Closer – a pop-up exhibition by the photographer Scott Schuman, whose blog, The Sartorialist, has made him one of fashion’s most notable documentarians. Running through Sept. 15 to overlap with New York Fashion Week, the show is a tie-in with Mr. Schuman’s second book, „The Sartorialist: Closer,“ for which the show is named.

Countless fashion bloggers have made Mr. Schuman’s style a virtual genre. But few, if any, can claim Mr. Schuman’s influence and credibility. He can be seen as the first „true“ photographer of the digital age. His pictures are shot digitally, disseminated digitally, commented on digitally, and printed digitally. Whereas he says, “I never really dreamed of being a fashion photographer,“ his blog shows portraits of fashionable people he finds on the streets and was among the first of its kind and averages 12 million views monthly.

Whilst Schuman’s early photos were typically full-body portraits in places like New York, Paris and Milan, his work in “Closer“ comprises more-studied images drawn from unpredictable places like Morocco and Las Vegas.
