Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2015

The National Portrait Gallery presents the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize. The competition celebrates international photography of every inspiration. Portraits, landscapes, moods, every thing is allowed and is displayed through a unique and avant-garde exhibition.

It is the British artist David Stewart who won the 2015 edition. Untitled ‘Five Girls 2014’ the Prize winning photography already contested at the Taylor Wessing Prize in 2008. The picture was taken in 2005 and captures Stewart’s daughter surrounded by her girlfriends in a disinterested position. ‘I had always had a fascination with the way people interact – or, in this case, fail to interact, which inspired the photograph of this group of girls’ says the artist. The physical closeness contradicts with the mental disconnection and therefore forms the deepness of the picture.

The second Prize went to Anoush Abrar with ‘Hector’ a contemporary representation of the iconic Cupid and the third one was won by Peter Zelewski and his ’Nyaueth’ from his ‚Beautiful Strangers‘ series.
