In the autumn of 2014 the He Xiangning Art Museum hosted the Foam exhibition ‘The Space Between Us – Contemporary Dutch Photography’. Being the fruit of a collaboration between both museums and the Pin Projects, it is now to the Foam museum to welcome a Chinese contemporary-based exhibition entitled ‘We May Have Met Before’.

The show is formulates as a presentation and representation of three Chinese cities, Shenzhen, Beijing and Shanghai. It is orchestrated by major Chinese curators Feng Boyi, Liu Gang and Wang Dong. In order to offer a wide perspective of the actual Chinese artistic panorama, seven artists, from various background, generations with peculiar visions and understandings are displayed. Wang Ningde’s monumental works explore lights and compositions as a constructed technique. Fan Xi prospects the photographic medium by testing its boundaries while Feng Yan brings about his storytelling power to reflect on photography as a impression of significant events. Rong&Rong & Inri the famous artistic couple echo on their intimacy through black and white captures and Zuang Hui gives an inside of Chinese popular culture. Artist Chi Peng acutely explores the counter side of Chinese culture by reverberating a lonely, sad and anxious generation led by the one-child policy.

‘We May Have Met Before’ delivers a close inside of a culture too often stigmatized and underestimated by investigating it through the photographic medium.
