Balz Isler’s work is highly inspired by social media. From blogging to video games his pieces depict new representations.

In 2011 Balz Isler graduated Cum Laude from the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg. He studied at the Media Studies Department and learned from Marie-Jose Burki and Jeanne Faust. Isler exhibited in the MMK Frankfurt in 2013, at Art Basel in 2014 and at the Ludwig Forum in Aachen in 2015, always accompanying his works by his words.

From November 21 on, his works will be on display in the group exhibition ART DEMO DAY. Florian Waldvogel, the curator of the show, sat down with Balz Isler to talk art and politics.

Florian Waldvogel: What has been formative during your studies?
Balz Isler: Climate change, parallel worlds and dependence.

FW: To what extent are social references important for your work?
BI: This is difficult to describe with units of lengths, but it should be sth in a square. They are companions, but not actors of it.

FW: What is an exhibition?
BI: An excessive pitch; full of lust and charm, of trust and envy.
