During her 10 years of artistic activity Woodman produced a noteworthy collection that keep inspiring artists all over the world. The main subject of her work his Francesca Woodman herself. Her self-portraits give an inside into her emotional state. Sometimes explicitly naked and exposed, sometimes covered, as with ‚From Space 2′ in which the wallpaper wrap her body, Woodman’s figure is central to comprehend her oeuvre. Often blurry due to a long exposure time, her photographs stage the feminine body while experimenting with it as shown with the ‘Untilted MacDowell Colony’ series. Three periods divide her work. First her time as a student in Providence, then her Italy years, and finally her New York age. All three stages are imprint of the themes of sexuality, gender, representation and corporality.
