Jan Voss
‚À suivre…‘

Paris

‚À suivre…’ is the enigmatic title of the new show of Jan Voss in the Paris-based Galerie Lelong. From narrative paintings in the late 80s, the German born artist who currently lives and works in France shifted to more abstract works mixing different medium and materials.

Black strokes surround the mi figurative representations that enhance Voss‘ canvases. The sculptor and painter superposes usual objects, vegetation and new materials to add up to the original composition. As for ‘Lieu-dit’ (rouge) (2012). All objects are assembled without clear outline border nor define boundary, linked by a tonic red paint. Few white surface is left to balance the composition that confines ‘malicious interrogations and ‘subversive games’.

Other paintings ‘Grande Instance’ or ‘Dramaturgie’ reinforce the strong evasive iconographic corpus of the artist who at the age of 79 believes that ‘art is not behind us, but ahead of us’.
