‚Looking Out‘ is the new exhibition presented by the Luhring Augustine Gallery about Rachel Whiteread. Internationally known for her architectural pieces, Whiteread is here displaying the steps that lead to the final aspect of her works, notably, the preparation drawings.

‚Looking Out‘ exposes the process of some of the major pieces created by Whiteread, a leading artist of her generation. In 1993, the British artist created ‚House‘, the cast of a Victorian terrace house that will soon reward her with the Turner Prize for best young artist. From then one, she accumulated masterpieces with ‚Water Tower‘, ‚Untitled Monument‘ and ‚Holocaust Monument‘. All being reminiscences of a historical buildings, cities or events, they represent the most significant episodes of our time.

The drawings on display for ‚Looking Out‘ recall the works of ‚House‘ or ‚Ghost House‘ and become, through their meticulous details and architectural art, artworks of their own that do not need the final project to exist.
