Lithographs and limited editions compose the core of the ‘A Survey of Graphic Work’, a Sam Francis exhibition presented by the Bernard Jacobson Gallery. Through this series the American painter consolidated his position as a colorist master, bleeding and transcending colors and color associations.

In 1970 Francis found the Litho-Shop. The Santa Monica-based space enabled him to print and publish his prints with the assistance of two professional printers concocting exclusive new tints for the lithographs. Abstract and action painting-inspired, his approach used dripping and all-over technics reproduced through the print process. A process close to the artist who declares that ‘when I am working with these prints, I am the paper, I am the paint, I am the machine.. I am not trying to make something.’

Over 500 prints created in four decades present lithographs, screen prints and monotypes with an emphasize on Francis‘ love and skills for color innovation, dexterity and understanding.
