Avistamientos (Sightings) is the current exhibition by Spanish artist Santiago Lara running at Pop;68. In between dreams and reality, there is only a thin barrier that Lara bridges with this outlandish show.

Ghost wandering about with their phones, a faceless hoodie wearer running away with dogs and animal-headed human obsessed with their technological devices. Santiago Lara’s paintings depict the whimsical present reality that is reigned over by online communication. The Evanescent is a dog dressed as a human restlessly holding its smartphone in a dark middle west American landscape. These surroundings are typical of the Spanish artist. It can be seen as well in Inverted Tower and The Malverde’s Return. Curator Florian Waldvogel explains: „When someone observes the artworks by Lara, they realize that behavior and action cannot be expand through a recourse to memories but only in relation with the laws of the symbolic, which are materialized through repetition.“
