‚POV‘
Toronto
The AGO – Art Gallery of Ontario – presents the largest solo exhibition on Stephen Andrew that has been on show so far. Entitled ‘Stephen Andrews POV’, the show displays what the multi-tasking artist has created during the last 15 years. Trained as a photographer, the Canadian artists has been exploring the medium painting since the 2000’s. Numerous topics such as AIDS, war, memory and the chaos theory have been on his focus. Featuring works on paper, photographs and 21 large paintings, POV retrospectively represents the artists career to today. The artworks are coming from public and private collections, and curated by the AGO’s curator of modern and contemporary art, Kitty Scott.
The Toronto artist’s pieces reveal an always-snowy effect obtained by the numerous points that enhance the canvas. Workingmen, signalization panels or the sky, here are are the themes depicted by Andrews, referring to one of his favorite topic: the memory. Along with the exhibition, a hardcover catalogue will be available as well as an interview with the artist by Glenn Ligon, accompanied by commentaries of several artists who have crossed Stephen Andrew’s way over the years.
