The Dusseldorf-based Museum Kunstpalast currently presents ‘4 Real & True 2’, an exhibition revealing Wim Wenders’ career as a photographer. More often thought as a film scenarist, director and producer, the North Rhine-Westphalian artist dedicated his time for both a photographic camera and a video camera. His pictures are therefore a depiction of his journey and a reflection of his understanding.

In 1971, Wim Wenders is the instigator of a brand new movement that agitates the artistic German scene; the Filmverlag der Autoren. Willing to achieve an even deeper freedom of movement, speech and thought he creates his own society, the ‘Wim Wenders Produktion’ in 1974. From there, his greatest creations take shape such as ‘Wings of Desire’, The Salt of the Earth’ or ‘ Pina’. Along this way, a personal camera was always accompanying Wenders, first to capture private instants and then, from 1983 on, with the acquisition of new objective, to preserve every moment brought by his surroundings.

‘4 Real & True 2’ is a representation of Wenders‘ numerous trips, mostly along the United States delivering the artist fascination for landscapes. Through the captivating colors and stillness of the composition one can recognize the will and purpose of the one who said ‘ What I firmly wanted to be, was a painter. (…) Perhaps this is why I want to achieve something with my pictures that is actually rooted in painting.”
