Emerging artist of the week

For our Emerging artist of the week, a column in collaboration with art platform UNAVAILABLE, we talked with Swedish Anna Karin Rasmusson about art education and her future plans.

portrait-2Wertical: How do describe your art to somebody who has never seen a work of you?
Anna Karin Rasmusson: As an experimenting with video and animation, but with my roots in painting. My work usually takes on questions on the body, psyche, women as well as motherhood, holes, the abject etc.

WE: Where did you study?
AKR: At the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm.

WE: What did university and your professors give to you?
AKR: The professors and teachers have given me a lot! Especially by kicking me out of my comfort zone. But to now leave the university, is very exciting and good.

WE: What are you currently working on?
AKR: My MA degree show which is comming up in 6 weeks.

WE: What are your three artists to watch?
AKR: Martha Roslers ”Semiotics of the Kitchen” is absolutely the best, Paul McCarthy is inspiring, and he the swedish Swedish artist Lisa Jeannin is super good.

WE: What does your artist career look like in five years?
AKR: I will continue to develop my art and will continue to surprise myself. I hope I will have visited exhibitions both nationally and internationally.
