Mark Jenkins
‚Still Life‘

Culver City

Still Life is Mark Jenkins’ first solo exhibition with Fabien Castanier Gallery. The sculptor and installation artist keeps exploring social interactions, artistic expressions and urban settings in order to concoct a unique visual experience. Made out of tape, and shaped on real bodies – often his own- his emblematic figures are the core of this exhibition that can be lived as a performance.

The body of work presented in Still Life has been formulated and created in LA, reflecting the surroundings and language of the city. Some human pieces are on show, as well as three-dimensional canvases and specific installations such as the cactus sculpture. Each and every of Mark Jenkins‘ works create self-reflection and uneasiness. They question and disturb the audience. The human sculptures work as a mirror of the viewer who loses its human shield in front of this bizarre yet confronting piece. All works conform to the title of the show that evokes the stillness of the work as well as their aliveness in an usual yet reflective way.
