Ulrich Strothjohann
‚Mapping Holes‘

Berlin

On the occasion of the launch of Mapping Holes, Hatje Cantz’s new publication on Ulrich Strothjohann, Adamski Gallery is displaying the works from the German artist.

Along his many travels, Strothjohann took the 116 pictures that form the Mapping Holes series. Attracted and fascinated by holes the artist who usually works with language and text created a documentation of international cavities with Mapping Holes. Strothjohann identified the precise circular pattern on any surface. Thus, the series contains a laundry machine abandoned on a beach, a loudspeaker in an underground London cave and a tree covered with many knots.

The pictures have been taken between 1984 and 1998 and are all linked by their common enigmatic aperture.
