Urban Art Biennale

Mrz 24, 2013

Völklingen

For the second time, the World Cultural Heritage Site at the Völklingen Ironworks presents its Urban Art Biennale entitled Urban Art – Graffiti 21.

The world’s metropolises are the sources of inspiration for the artists of Urban Art. New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Berlin, London, and the World Cultural Heritage Site at the Völklingen Ironworks have become the sites of encounter with an art that, thanks to digital cameras and the internet, has made a triumphal procession from the streets and stepped up into the museums. The beginning of Urban Art lay in graffiti. From youths in the New York Bronx spraying subway cars and house facades, the style of graffiti became a global expression of youth culture.

Presented artists include established artists such as Seen, Jef Aérosol, JonOne, Futura, Shepard Fairey, Cope2, Phase2 and Invader as well as Augustine Kofie, Horfée, Pro176, Sozyone Gonzales, Finok, Morten Andersen, Vhils and Smash137.
