‚About Face‘

Los Angeles

The Los Angeles-based Kayne Gallery presents a group show bringing together six artists working on the topic of portraiture. Joan Brown, Brian Clavin, Maria Lassing, Dianna Molzan, Diane Simpson and Christina Ramberg are suggesting a new, abstract, deconstructive genre of the portrait with the exhibition ‘About face’.

While the six artists who come from different roots, formation and media seem to be diverse at the first glance, their works of art actually harmonise at second glance. For Joan Brown, Brian Calvin and Maria Lassnig, portraitures are an obvious focus that drives their works and creations. Dianna Molzan and Diane Simpson, on the contrary, work with geometrical installations exploring the material world and the abstract visitation of the portrait. Christina Ramberg positions herself in an in-between of the figurative and the representative by joining body and face close-ups surrounded with geometrical black lines that shape the figures.

The six body of works add therefore to one another in order to create ‘About face’, an exhibition about the discover or rediscover of one self.
