‚Freedom Culture‘

New York

‘Freedom Culture’ is a group exhibition curated by Graham Collins and hosted by the New York- based Journal Gallery. Among others, the show gathers a plethora of artists including Keith Varadi, Jason Osborne, Paul Branca, David Adamo, Jack Pierso and David Shrigley all working around the medium of sculpture and painting.

The confrontation of sculpture versus painting is an everlasting theme. Already approached by theoreticians and artists of every century, it truly emerged with the two treaties of Leon Battista Alberti respectively entitled ‘De Pictura’ and ‘De Statua’. This ongoing matter is brought to attention through ‘Freedom Culture’. But for once, it is not about electing one or comparing both, but about reassembling them.

Therefore, the lines are intentionally blurred in between the artworks in order to focus on these forms of art as communication medium, which convey information and altogether originate open dialogues as a constitutive approach.
