Rochechouart

The Musée départemental d’art contemporain de Rochechouart currently hosts Jules de Balincourt’s first museum presentation in France. The Paris-born, New York- based painter artist has been a notable figure on the New York art scene for the past decade. Misfit Island presents a dozen of paintings from 2003 to now in which Balincourt invites us to journey across territories that might be as well tropical or urban, celestial or earthbound. His paintings can be at the same time strange and realist, figurative and abstract, but always rooted in contemporary life. For the first time, the exhibition also focuses on the artist’s studio, the Starr Studio in Brooklyn, which has served for a few years as a space for performances and concerts, as a gallery for local artist and as a community center.
