Thomas Struth
‚Nature & Politics‘

Mrz 7, 2016

Essen

World acclaimed German photograph Thomas Struth is consecrated with a solo exhibition at Museum Folkwang in Essen. Entitled Nature & Politics, the show is a testimony of humans and their environment. Through the untouched photographs of Struth, technology and nature both reach their epitome.

Struth began his iconic cycle Museum Photographs in 1989. Still ongoing today, the theme stays alive and vibrant; not because of the art pieces, as one could assume, but because of the museum visitors. What triggers the German photographer are places and how humans interact with these spaces. Nature & Politics offers a variety of takes ranging from an intriguing chemistry cabinet full with balloons, writings and unknown mechanisms to a candid family scene looking at a museum’s aquarium. Each picture is a testament of the century we are living in, its actors, constructions and interactions.
