Art in a Youth Prison

Rockenberg

Earlier this month, art edition agency, DRAW A LINE, organized a project in Rockenberg prison nearby Frankfurt on the Main. They got Montana Cans on board and invited artists such as Roids, Horfèe & Ken Sortais, SatOne and Score & Fence; their mission: to paint the well protected walls.

In the beginning, all participants were excited. Especially the security staff was tensed as ladders and scaffolds were placed next to the prison walls in order to paint them. The artists worked right next to the inmates‘ windows. This is why they had to deal with many rough remarks. Even the participating prisoners had their concerns. During the project, many amazing and meaningful conversations between the inmates, the artists and also the guards took place. And a selected group of young prisoners even assisted the group of artists.
